DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- 27 NFL Teams , 6 CFL and more Pro Scouts descended on Daytona for the 2018 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl January 14, 2018 at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. Zachary Green of Arizona rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns as the American team defeated the National team 26-20 in the Spiral Tropical Bowl Sunday at Municipal Stadium.
Green scored on the American team’s first two possessions on runs of one and five yards, the former after he kept the scoring drive alive with a 23-yard fourth down run.
Richard Lagow of Indiana completed seven of nine passes for 62 yards, including a 18-yard touchdown to Taj Williams of TCU that gave the American team a 19-6 halftime lead.
The National team closed to 19-13 on a five-yard from Ramses Owens of Lincoln with 10:42 remaining in the third quarter, but the American team regained a two-score lead when Gene Bethea of Southeastern Louisiana capped off a nine-play, 91-yard drive with a one-yard with 10:50 remaining.
Interceptions by Marcellus Pippins of Washington State University and Nate Gaines of Texas-San Antonio stopped two National fourth-quarter drives. The National team managed a 4-yard touchdown from Danny Etling of LSU to Jared Bear of Kentucky Weslyn as time expired.
The National team got on the board late in the first quarter when Deniko Carter from West Georgia caught a 4-yarder from North Carolina’s Brandon Harris.
Augustus Edwards of Rutgers rushed for 53 yards on nine carries for the American team, while Chris Robinson (Delta State) and Alfred Ramsby (Troy) led the National rushing with 27 and 26 yards, respectively.
Laquivonte Gonzales of Southeastern led the American receiving with 52 yards on six catches, followed by Williams with four grabs for 75. Carter had had four catches for 37 yards for the National.
Tomy Fields (Indiana) had four tackles and two pass breakups for the American defense while Ermon Lane (The Citadel) had seven tackles for the National defense.
